Orsha is the center of the district of the same name in the Vitebsk region. Orsha is located on the bank of the Dnieper, in a place where the Orshitsa River flows into it, which gave the name to the city. Orsha is located 202 km east of Minsk and 80 km south of Vitebsk. The distance to the border with the Russian Federation is about 53 km.

Orsha is one of the largest railway junctions of the Republic of Belarus. Railway lines pass through the city to Vitebsk, Lepel, Minsk, Mogilyov, Krichev and Smolensk. In addition, several international roads - M8E 95 and M1E 30 - as well as republican destination - P15 (Krichev – Orsha – Lepel), P22 (Orsha – Dubrovno), P76 (Orsha – Shklov – Mogilyov), P87 (Vitebsk - Orsha).
