Vitebsk is the administrative center of the Vitebsk region and the Vitebsk region, one of the largest cities of the Republic of Belarus, the cultural capital of the country. The city is located 253 km from Minsk, in the north-east of Belarus on the river Western Dvina. Vitebsk occupies an advantageous geographical position: it is located at the crossroads of the most important transport communications - railways and highways of European significance E95 (St. Petersburg - Kiev) and P20 (Smolensk - Vitebsk - Polotsk - Daugavpils).
